Based out of San Diego, Crimson Coil is a dedicated, regional rock band delivering a high-octane sound that fearlessly speaks truth to power. Formed in January 2020, the group has built a fierce reputation on the live circuit, commanding stages across Southern California with occasional gigs in Los Angeles. Their dynamic performances captivate audiences by blending hard-hitting original compositions with electrifying covers of iconic rock classics.
The band is fronted by vocal powerhouse Barbara Valente, a sought-after instructor who studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, holds a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance, and sang opera professionally in Europe. An opera singer turned progressive rock vocalist, Valente masterfully channels the raw energy of legendary rock divas alongside the soaring depth of an operatic diva.
Crimson Coil’s foundational wall of sound is driven by lead guitarist Michael Williams, whose intricate, blistering guitar riffs and complex compositions shape the melodic backbone of the group. Alongside him, keyboardist Greg Kluthe introduces a layer of symphonic stylings, weaving classic textures into their high-energy arrangements. Locking down the low end is a powerhouse rhythm section anchored by bassist Ken Shattuck and drummer Dan Leone, further elevated by the harmonies of vocalist Julie Drake. Together, they bring a massive live experience built for the festival stage.
